Storyline

On the remote island of Talrega, the Yggdrasil Labyrinth – a colossal, shifting maze carved from the petrified roots of the World Tree – has lured generations of explorers with promises of lost technology and godlike treasures. Yet none have returned from its deepest strata, where ancient defenses known as FOEs stalk the shadows. You play as Nyx, a young trainer joining the island’s guild to uncover the fate of her missing sister Aimée, a veteran delver. When a cataclysmic sandstorm tears through her expedition, Nyx is stranded in the abyss and discovers Olympia, a dormant android holding fragmented memories of the labyrinth’s true purpose: a containment vault for Jormungandr, a world-devouring corruption born from a failed ancient project to save humanity. Teaming with Olympia and Ethan, a gifted cartographer, Nyx navigates poison forests and flooded ruins (inspired by Etrian Odyssey III’s drowned city) while evading factions seeking to weaponize the labyrinth’s power. As they descend deeper – confronting body-warping hazards reminiscent of Made in Abyss – Olympia’s memories reveal Aimée’s sacrifice to stall Jormungandr’s awakening. To prevent annihilation, Nyx must master strategic double battles using her rebalanced Pokémon team (Gen 1-3 + new Etrian Variants), solve FOE puzzles, and gather three legendary artifacts to activate Gungnir: a superweapon requiring unbearable sacrifice. The labyrinth’s final secret forces a harrowing choice: destroy the core and erase Talrega’s future, or become its eternal guardian.
